Peter blowing a bubble in hot glass

Sculptural and functional work, all personally designed and hand made using traditional furnace glass blowing and flameworking techniques.

Inspiration for the work comes from many areas of the natural world, but particularly the colours, forms and textures found in tropical plants and flowers.

FAQ question

Can I take what I make at a course home with me?

Hide or show FAQ question
Everything you make is yours to keep, however what you make needs to be annealed before you can take it home. The glass annealing process relieves internal stresses in the glass which could otherwise leave it vulnerable to fracturing or shattering in response to minor mechanical or thermal shock. This makes annealing a crucial step in the manufacture of robust, stable, and heat-resistant glass. We put the glass into a pre-heated kiln at 500°C and let it gently cool over night back to room temperature. You can either collect your glass the next day or we will post it to you.
FAQ question

How does Flameworking differ from Glassblowing?

Hide or show FAQ question
Furnace glassblowing and flameworking are just two of many different ways to work with glass. Flameworking, also called lampworking, uses a high temperature flame to melt the glass in a relatively small, but precise area. Furnace glassblowing uses larger equipment, including a large pot of molten glass held in a furnace; metal pipes are then used to collect the glass out. In both processes hand tools and gravity are used to shape the glass.
